At A Time Of Death

As Christians we believe that God loves and cares for all people, giving salvation and eternal life.  Death is a time of life in which the faith we share is particularly important, and we are glad to make the ministry of the church available to you.

Pastoral Care
Our pastor wants to support you in illness, death, and grief as early as possible.  You may call our pastor or simply call the church staff to request this support.

When death has occurred, please call as soon as possible.  It is preferable to speak with the pastor prior to making arrangements with a funeral home.  It can often be helpful to know the schedule of the church or the pastor prior to making funeral or memorial arrangements.  The pastor will also be glad to accompany you to the funeral home, if that is your wish.

Funeral and Memorial Services
In general, a funeral is a service with the body present.  A memorial is conducted without the body present at the service.  The Christian faith encourages services to be held in the church.  Local funeral homes are well equipped and sensitive to your needs, as well as those of the church.  You are welcome to select the funeral home (funeral directors) of your choice.  Services are always regarded as times of worship so the order of worship and content will be planned with that in mind.

It is important for the officiating pastor to spend time with those making the arrangements to assure that the service is supportive and personal.  While pastors reserve the right to decide what is appropriate, your insights are needed.  The service will be personal, yet it will convey a positive Christian message.  The service acknowledges the grief of those present and gives thanks for God's gifts in the one who has died.  You are welcome to suggest scriptures or other readings, hymns, special music, and persons to share brief personal memories or tributes.  For a service in the church, the Franklin Church pastor will officiate and others may participate with the pastor's approval or by invitation.  The pastor will go to the cemetery for a graveside service, if desired.

Memorial Contributions
Memorial gifts to the church are welcome.  Envelopes are available for your use at any time.  Memorials may also be made to other benevolent agencies.  It is best to inform the funeral director if you wish to name a memorial when arrangements are made so your desire is printed in the death notice, e.g. newspaper obituary.

Lunches and Receptions
Arrangements for a lunch or reception at the church may be made with a catering service.  Consult with the church staff.

Memorial Garden
Franklin Community church is available for the interment of ashes.  It is especially appropriate for a church memorial garden to be used for this purpose.  Placing ashes into the church's garden or columbarium is a fitting symbol of the faith that we have in God's love.

Grief Counseling and Support
Our pastor wants to be helpful through the time following the service, to lend counsel and support in grief.  The professional services of the Samaritan Counseling Center are also available.

**Special Note regarding Technology Requirements for our sound system:
If you have a video with sound that you want to share during the service,
it currently needs to be embedded into a Power Point presentation.
Thank you.
